Stone age paint shop unearthed

Long ago in the stone age, caveman stirred up a recipe for a red-hued paint that they stored in abalone shells and they used them for themselfs to decorate their belongings. But this was about 100,000 years ago in the past! Some people say that it's hard to tell what caveman did with the stuff that they created. Some caveman even created strange tool kits that helped them in something. Today, people have found burried deep in the ground these tools and kits. When scientists were looking at them, they found out that cavemen were actually very intelligent. They know this because from looking at the kits and tools, they saw that the cavemen could put together dust, dirt, rocks, and plants to create paint, glue, and other things. It's kind of like they knew what chemistry is. It is very interesting to find out that even cavemen were creating something scientific so long ago, and it is also very cool to know that cavemen were actually so smart and didn't create things by chance but by actually thinking and planning.
I knew that caveman people were not stupid in the past of 100,000 years but they were smart by descovering new things that changed our future today because If caveman didnt discover anything, our future would be different.

Coming soon: animal transplants

Author: James GallagherDate: 21/10/2011
Time:02:20 GMT
Website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15385648

This article is about transplanting animal organs wich means that people can for example take out a heart of an animal and place into a human body. The author says that using animals as source of organs for transplantation into humans was once one of the next big things: a solution to transplant waiting list. In the UK there are 8,000 people on the list, and three of them die every day. This type of operatio seems to be better than the other kinds that are being used: In August one man had his heart replaced with a mechanical one, while stem cells have been used for simple structures such as the windpipe. However, using stem cells to build more complicated organs such as a heart is a long way off and mechanical body parts are used in the short term before an actual transportation.

I was a but confused of what I should think about the article because it has some positive and also some negative things in it. I think that it is good that the doctors and scientists came up with this method of operating because many lives can be saved and people had a better chance of surviving and getting a new organ after their old one has been hurt or damaged. However, at the same time I also think it's wrong to kill the animals and take their organs because we are jusy using them.

Southmead hospital, Bistol, gives public chance to use surgical robot

Author: anonymousDate: 28 sptember 2011
Website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-15076151, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/robotic_surgery

This article is about a robot named DaVinci that is used on prostate cancer only for men. The urology team that uses these robots in the Southmead hospital in Bristol carried out more than 450 robotic radical prostate gland operations and thirty bladder removal operations in 2009. The DaVinci robot includes three components: a surgeon's console, a robotic cart with four arms, and a 3D vision system. The surgeon's consol contains the master controls that the surgeon uses to manipulate the instruments. The handles translate the surgeon's natural hand and wrist movements into precise and robotic movements. These robots are very helpful for operating on prostate cancer because with their help the surgeons are able to make smaller and more precise cuts during the surgery. They say it is so precise that it can peal a grape. The patients quickly recover after operations by the help of the DaVinci robots and they stay in the hospital for only twenty four hours. The Southemead hospital presented in September 2011 the DaVinci robot to the public, patients, and hospital staff to see how the robot works. It was also said that this robot really changed prostate cancer treatment and there is a hope to extend its use to other cancers. All this happened during the "Blue September" event, which aimed to raise awareness of male cancers.

"Hurricane forms off western Mexico, with another likely coming"

Title: "Hurricane forms off western Mexico, with another likely coming"
Author: CNN Wire Staff
Source: http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/07/world/americas/tropical-weather/index.html?npt=NP1
Date: 8/10/2011

This article is about a hurricane that striked Mexico at 90 mph, 5 mph every hour and 1525 km away from the Southwest Peninsula. The hurricane was going faster after every hour and got more speed form the southwest winds. The hurricane was very devastating and destructive: it destroyed about 300 houses and killed about 130 people. After the hurricane was getting more speed every hour, the situation got even worse. The ground started cracking and giant rocks started flying in the air and aiming for houses and people. Oil got spilled and fire started to burn houses down. Most people were crushed by the giant rocks and caught on fire. When people saw this destruction, they said "this is a nightmare it just can’t be happening". Most people escaped Mexico to save themselves but some didn’t survive the escape. After the hurricane was cleared, the rescue team arrived and saved most of the people but some were already dead when the ambulance was taking them to the hospital. I really hate when this kind of disaster happens because people don’t have homes, food and clothes and they have to live on the streets or hotels. Also these types of events results in a lot of pain and deaths. I think that the scientific part of this article is the hurricane and how the air and wind move to result in one.

Robots change our lives

Title of article: Ready for the Robot Revolution
Author: Jon Stewart
Source: http:/www.bbc.co.uk.news/technology-15146053
Date: 2.10.2011

Right now I've read this article called "Ready for the Robot Revolution".
This article is about robots that can change the world and represent the future. Many people had said that the robots can take peoples jobs or run their own lives. The robots are usually made by the Japanese people. Some people think the Japanese people have excellent ideas of making toys video games or other things. But when they make robots, then that can be a problem because then other people that buy them might have problems with them or they can go crazy and destroy a house. Like I saw this video of a guy that bought a robot and it went so crazy that when it exploded, it brought the entire house down. Robots are not similar to humans but they are super smart and sometimes they might go out of control and go crazy. Most people that buy robots spend many dollars. But when people buy them, they get a hang of it by a few days. However, the robot might break and you wouldn't know which pieces you must put in or take out. Some people also say that robots could rule the entire world which would be horrible and scary. So when you see a robot for sale, just ignore it so it wouldn't ruin your life!

Plastic "Flying Carpet"

Title of Article: Flying"Plastic Carpet"
Autor: Noah Jafferis
Source: http:/www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15110477
Date: 30.9.2011

I have read this very interesting article about a plastic "Flying Carpet" on the BBC online internet news. This flying carpet was made in Princeton University. The plastic carpet is 10 cm long, has air pockets that help it fly, and it floats because of electricity. The flying carpet moves only at the speed of one centimeter in one second. The scientists studied for 2 years before the invention of the carpet. The plastic flying carpet has to keep close to the ground for now but in the future with more new research the flying carpet could fly faster and higher. The article also includes a video of the machine in slow motion. In this video you can actually see how the carpet works and when you look very carefully, you can kind of see how the air is moving in waves under the machine. It looks like this is the first invention which can fly in this way without being connected to electricity in any way or having batteries. I think that in the future maybe this invention could lead to a new form of transportation like flying cars and stuff.

Worm Glue

In science class, I've read this article called "The Worm Glue".
In this article, scientists and Russel Stewart have created a new type of glue from a sandcastle worm that is nontoxic, works under water and can repair broken bones. These worms can be found in low and hight tides and come out at night. The sandcastle worms can also create their own homes by using sand and their super glue that can hold the walls of their homes. Their super glue hardens in water in less than thirty seconds and becomes strong like leather. These worms also live in some laboratories where scientists can study them. When the scientists were studying the sandcastle worms, they made a even more super strong glue form the worms that is twice as strong than the original glue that the worms use. When the scientists tested the glue on a human that had a broken bone, it got healed up quickly and was not poisones to the human body cells. Now, Russell Stewart and his team helped the people that had broken bones because without him, people would be longer in the hospitals to get their bones healed up.

Scientific Summer

Over the summer I’ve been playing on the computer and sometimes I had to check something. Playing on the computer over the summer was a lot of fun! Computers are my favorite because they are my favorite technology design.
Computers are very important to use and very expensive. If the world would be without computers, we wouldn’t have anything new like pictures, games, videos and other things. Computers work by many steps. First, everyone knows that computers always have a turn on and turn off button. Second, computers have a little pointer that goes anywhere you move it and it can take you to different sites by clicking something that will take you there. And third, computers have interesting, funny, exciting and also confusing sites that people go on more often. Many people in the world use computers to study, play games, watch videos, writing articles, paragraphs, stories and many other things. I actually go on computer sometimes to do my homework, write articles or summaries. But first there were home computers and then there were laptop computers that you could carry around and where ever you go. So we all should be lucky that we have an excellent technology design that everyone appreciates.
The scientific thing about the computers is that the computer has everything that you want to buy, see, or explore, and that the computers have a mouse that controls a small pointer on the screen.
